Sealed drive way

Fulton Holgan have been sealing and fixing the entrance and car park to Dorie School.  When we walk out to the bus you can feel your feet sinking into the dirt.  It has been compacted so it almost looks like concrete already.  We are waiting excitedly until it will be sealed - until then we will have MUDDY feet!

Christchurch Museum Visit

Last Tuesday the Christchurch Museum came for a visit. They told us about the Charlotte Jane ship, and how they dressed up. It was really interesting learning about them. They also taught us about how fast sickness could spread on the Charlotte Jane, they had a real cool game about it. We had to pretend to be sick in a bucket and pass it on.

AVAILLL

At the moment for Availll we are watching Bridge To Terabithia. On the first day we did Take a dictionary to the movies. For that we are in groups and we have a letter each. The student assistants would pause the movie and then they would call out a letter. The persons who's letter was called out would look up the hardest word on the screen in the dictionary. The next activity was surprise subtitles. The student assistants pause the movie and we have to write down the subtitle we last saw on the screen.
We will be finishing Bridge To Teribithia this Thursday.

New library books

Today we got our new library books. There were lots of interesting ones. Mrs Townshend got them out for us. We each had to choose one book. I chose Sam Silverthorn, I still haven't started the book yet. There were lots of different types of books, funny ones, scary ones, serious ones, and lots of other ones.  We are all looking forward to personal writing time.

Earthquake poster

We decided to make a earthquake poster when Miss Mac was teaching us on Wednesday and Thursday. We got pictures off the Internet - Christchurch looked very bad with the liquefaction. There was a picture of a mercedes suck in liquefaction. We feel really sorry for all of the people in Christchurch.

On Shaking Ground

Recently, Canterbury has been feeling some more aftershocks. On Monday 13th June at 1.00 there was a 5.5 magnitude aftershock/earthquake felt by some of the students at Dorie School. At that time, the YR 7 & 8's were at manual and also felt the shake.
Following the 5.5, there was a 6.0 magnitude shake as well. The 6.0 was felt all in Christchurch and even  down in Dunedin & Invercargill. These earthquakes caused more destruction to Christchurch, and some of the effects were similar to the 22nd February.

Also, on the morning of Wednesday 15th June, there was another 5.5 magnitude aftershock, felt by some residents of Dorie.
